Finding my son on the bus

Some people look at me like I’m nuts when I tell them I have gone carless in the suburbs. Some days I would have to agree. And then there are days like today when the bus is nearly empty and it’s just me and my son, sharing a seat and talking – REALLY talking – about why he wants to get a bird if our cat dies, what to do on Halloween (mom messed up and bought concert tickets for that night), how a transfer ticket works, and why he’s afraid to make friends because they just end up hurting him or leaving…..  We had such a long talk. Face to face, heart to heart, on the bus.
